Pokémon Winds & Waves Announcement Trailer Breakdown

What does the reveal trailer actually show?

The 3:32 trailer (published February 27, 2026, on the official Pokémon YouTube channel) opens with a hand-drawn storybook — watercolor pages of the region’s islands and Pokémon — before cutting to in-engine footage on Nintendo Switch 2. Everything after the sketchbook sequence is confirmed game footage, though overlaid UI is minimal.

What happens in the storybook opening?

A child’s picture book flips through watercolor spreads: an island village, Pokémon like Espeon- and Umbreon-like figures, and finally Pikachu — which transitions from sketch to a real Pikachu plush toy on a table, then to the game. The framing device introduces Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu by implication: two dressed-up Pikachu the official site calls special to this adventure. For their confirmed details, see the special Pikachu profile.

Which habitats appear in the footage?

The trailer tours at least six distinct biomes in under a minute: dense jungle with red flowering plants, a resort-style coastline village with shop signs, mangrove swamps with lily-pad Pokémon, a coral reef seen from the air, an underwater shot of a whale-like Pokémon, and a lava cave with fire plumes the protagonist runs past. Official copy describes Pokémon that “developed their own ecosystems” across windswept islands — the trailer is the evidence.

Which Pokémon can be spotted?

Beyond the three starters — Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, who appear together on a palm beach — sharp-eyed viewers can spot a whale-like Pokémon strongly resembling Wailord, caterpillar- and mantis-like species in forest shots, ghost-like Pokémon in a night scene, and balloon-like Pokémon drifting over a jungle path. Official names for these sightings are unconfirmed; we keep the running list at every confirmed Pokémon.

What does the trailer show about catching?

One shot shows a thrown Poké Ball mid-air trailing a luminous ring, and another shows the ring settling on the ground with sparkle effects — a visual flourish for captures rather than a plainly-new mechanic. No battle UI, gyms, or multiplayer are shown. The reveal intentionally under-explains; the next data drop will likely come from a Nintendo Direct or Pokémon Presents. Timeline: the road to launch.
