Mr. Windychu & Ms. Wavychu — the Special Pikachu Explained

What are Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu?

They are two specially-dressed Pikachu revealed for Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves — official art shows Mr. Windychu in a sun hat, sunglasses, aloha shirt and camera (the tourist look), and Ms. Wavychu in a floral hat and dress. The official site’s wording is deliberately vague: their role in your adventure “will be revealed at a later date.”

How do they map to the versions?

The names pair cleanly with the two versions: Mr. Windychu ↔ Pokémon Winds, Ms. Wavychu ↔ Pokémon Waves. The protagonist’s outfit also differs between versions (see main characters), so a version-linkage for these Pikachu is strongly implied — but whether they’re version-exclusive, gift Pokémon, or story companions is unconfirmed.

Are they a new mechanic?

Possibly — costume Pokémon have precedent (Pikachu dressing up goes back to Cosplay Pikachu in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and countless GO outfits), but never before as named characters anchoring a reveal. Community theories range from partner NPCs to mini-game mascots to the region’s “guide” Pokémon; none of that is official yet.

Where do they appear?

Both appear together in the trailer’s Pikachu sequence and in dedicated official art on the game site — including a beach-deck shot used as our cover. Regular Pikachu is otherwise visible throughout the footage. For everything else officially named, see all confirmed Pokémon; for how the reveal teased them, see the trailer breakdown.
