What are Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves?

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are paired mainline games — Generation 10 of the Pokémon RPG series — developed by GAME FREAK and announced during the Pokémon Day Presents on February 27, 2026, the franchise’s 30th anniversary. They are open-world adventures set across windswept islands and a vast, glittering ocean, releasing worldwide on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

When do Pokémon Winds and Waves come out?

The only official word is 2027, with a simultaneous worldwide launch — no exact date, price, or preorder timing has been announced. A leaked November 2027 window is circulating, but it is unverified; see our release-date tracker for what is confirmed versus rumored.

Which platforms will the games be on?

Nintendo Switch 2 only. The announcement names Switch 2 as the exclusive platform — there is no Nintendo Switch 1 version, and none has been announced for mobile or other consoles. Details and sources: Switch 2 exclusivity explained.

Who are the starter Pokémon?

Three first-partner Pokémon were revealed in the announcement trailer — the usual Grass / Fire / Water trio. Official stats:

Pokémon Type Category Ability Height Weight JP name
Browt Grass Bean Chick Overgrow 0.3 m 3.5 kg ハブロウ
Pombon Fire Puppy Blaze 0.4 m 6.7 kg ポムケン
Gecqua Water Water Gecko Torrent 0.3 m 9.5 kg ミオリー

Can’t pick? Our starter comparison breaks down designs, likely evolution directions, and version considerations.

What are Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu?

Two specially dressed Pikachu appeared at the end of the announcement trailer — The Pokémon Company calls them Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu and says their role in the adventure will be revealed later. Details: special Pikachu profile.

What is the region and world like?

The games are set in a tropical archipelago — lush islands surrounded by a huge ocean — where Pokémon have developed their own ecosystems. The reveal trailer shows jungle, a resort-style coastline, mangrove swamps, coral reefs, and lava caves; official materials emphasize overcoming “the forces of nature.” The region’s name and its real-world inspiration (media point to Southeast Asia) are not yet official. Frame-by-frame evidence: announcement trailer breakdown.

Who are the main characters?

You play as a customizable protagonist whose outfit differs between Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves — official art shows both versions. More: main characters.

Where do leaks fit in?

We track them — clearly labeled. The biggest so far: a map mockup leak (Sept 27) and the November 2027 release-window claim (Sept 2). Both live in News & Leaks with source chains and a plain RUMOR tag, separate from confirmed facts.
