Pokémon Winds & Waves Starters: Which Should You Choose?
Browt, Pombon or Gecqua? A side-by-side comparison of the Winds & Waves starters — types, abilities, personalities, and what each pick means for your run.
FAQ
Can you get all three starters in one playthrough?
Do your starters differ between Winds and Waves?
Which starter should you choose in Winds & Waves?
There’s no wrong answer — the trio follows the classic Grass/Fire/Water triangle with matched abilities (Overgrow/Blaze/Torrent). Since evolutions and stats aren’t revealed, pick on design and theme: Gecqua fits the ocean setting best on paper, Pombon suits aggressive playstyles, and Browt is the lovable underdog.
The trio side by side
| Browt | Pombon | Gecqua | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | Grass | Fire | Water |
| Category | Bean Chick | Puppy | Water Gecko |
| Ability | Overgrow | Blaze | Torrent |
| Height | 0.3 m | 0.4 m | 0.3 m |
| Weight | 3.5 kg | 6.7 kg | 9.5 kg |
| Official vibe | Lively but clumsy | Guileless and friendly | Intelligent |
| Design reads as | Owl-like chick | Pomeranian pup | Reef gecko |
What might their evolutions look like?
Pure speculation — but starter lines telegraph themes: Browt’s brows could grow into a wise owl or jungle fowl line, Pombon could grow into a blazing hound, and Gecqua could extend into a sleek sea-gecko or even a dragon-adjacent final form. Nothing is announced; we’ll update each profile the moment evolution art drops. If leaks interest you, our rumor coverage keeps them clearly labeled.
Does the version matter for starters?
No — Browt, Pombon and Gecqua appear in both Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. The version difference is the protagonist’s outfit (see main characters) and the theme of the special Pikachu pair (Mr. Windychu & Ms. Wavychu). Version-exclusive species lists, if any exist, haven’t been published.
